U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) made the following statement applauding the adoption of Amendment No. 999, establishing a Select Senate Committee on Investigation of the Economic Crisis, to S. 386, The Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009:

"With approval of this Amendment, the Senate moves one step closer to the truth about the root causes of our current economic crisis," said Senator John McCain. "Only after the select committee conducts its work will we truly be able to enact comprehensive and long-lasting reform of our economic system.

"But we must act quickly," McCain continued. "Home foreclosures and unemployment continue to rise, nationally and in Arizona, which has been among the hardest hit by this crisis. The sooner we get answers, the sooner we can restore the American people's confidence in our economy and our future."
